What is durability?
Ryzen is the brand name for AMD’s latest – and fastest – the line of computer processors. With their first model released in 2017, Ryzen CPUs and APUs are based on AMD’s super-revolutionized “Zen” microarchitecture – the 8th generation of AMD processor technology – and represent the company’s first significant processor release after the FX / A6 series from about five years earlier.

10 reasons why Ryzen is not durable?
- Many have expressed amazement at how AMD was able to catch up to Intel with Ryzen, especially with the 1800X, in the computing and productivity sectors. Are AMD CPUs less durable?
According to a recent survey, most of AMD’s Ryzen 3000 processors cannot reach their turbo speeds. The 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X is the worst, where less than 6% of the chips are capable of hitting 4.6GHz (which is the frequency it should hit according to advertising specs).
The famous overclocker, Der8auer, has been doing some research, surveying more than 3000 owners of 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs to take a Cinebench test to see what maximum frequency the CPU goes to. The results are, in his own words, “much worse than I expected.”
AMD’s latest Ryzen 3000 processors have been a considerable success, built at 7nm, offering unprecedented multi-core performance and making it almost impossible to recommend Intel chips for a similar price. But it wouldn’t be a new release from AMD if there wasn’t something going wrong, and it is becoming increasingly clear that the turbo speeds announced by AMD are beyond the capabilities of the vast majority of CPUs that have been sold thus far.
The rest of the CPUs remain with these percentages: In the Ryzen 5 3600X, 10% can reach its maximum speed, and the 3600 has a 50% possibility of getting its full speed.
On the Ryzen 7 3700X, around 15% can hit full speed, and approximately 25% on the Ryzen 7 3800X managed to hit 4.5GHz. Although Der8auer calls the 3800X a “useless CPU that I would not recommend buying.” Useless is not the word we would use, but we do not recommend it either.
This seems to show that the 7nm Zen 2 silicon is currently not capable of delivering what it claims. Der8auer also talks about Aorus X570 motherboards, which are largely the majority in the survey results.
